Kumihimo is traditional Japanese braiding. The word means gathering or combining cords, it is also the name of the braids made by the braiding technique. Historically used by Samauri to make cords to tie on swords and armor, by geisha as sashes for their kimonos, or as implements used in tea ceremonies, it now is used in contemporary jewelry making.
